Introduction

Shaw Kwei & Partners, based in Hong Kong, specializes in private equity investments in the Greater China region of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore.  We invest as a principal in well managed, medium-sized businesses in both the consumer and manufacturing industries.  Over the past 10 years, we have directed investments in companies across Greater China in a variety of industries, including auto components, electronics manufacturing services (EMS), food, consumer services, medical equipment, construction materials, and logistics management.

The cornerstone of our investment philosophy is thorough due diligence in order to understand and manage financial, commercial, and legal risks.  We look for investment opportunities in companies with:

  • an outstanding management team
  • established customer and supplier relationships
  • a distinct business focus with clear core competencies
  • the ability to grow into a market leader

We tailor investment structures for the unique needs of the company and its shareholders.  Companies may need additional capital to execute business plans or financial transactions for a variety of reasons, and we prefer to begin discussions with those companies as early as possible to determine the optimal financing structure and terms.  Investments by Shaw Kwei & Partners typically are for two to five years and often used for:

  • growth capital for family or entrepreneur owned businesses
  • co-investments with management teams in management buy-outs (MBOs)
  • buyouts of affiliates or subsidiaries of multinational corporations
  • capital for financial restructuring

After investing with a company, Shaw Kwei & Partners provides strategic advice, corporate governance guidance, and financial planning assistance to grow the business and increase shareholder value.  We draw on our wide-ranging experience in Asian business and finance, and when appropriate we work with outside auditors, lawyers, and consultants.  We support company growth by helping management pursue long-term objectives:

  • manage both the balance sheet and the income statement
  • pursue strategic acquisitions
  • build for the future through new product development, improved productivity, and expanding into new markets
  • motivate key employees with an ownership stake
